Welcome to the Design Technology program at Ivy Tech Community College - Bloomington. You are about to enter an exciting field of study that I believe you will find to be both challenging and rewarding.
The Design Technology program utilizes the latest releases of AutoCAD® and SolidWorks® software on state-of-the-art Computer-Aided Design (CAD) equipment. The curriculum is designed to prepare the student to apply technical knowledge, problem-solving methods and skills in support of engineering and architectural activities while becoming proficient in CAD.
The Design Technology curriculum provides opportunities for graduates to be productive immediately with manufacturers of various products such as industrial machinery, consumer products, computers and control equipment, governmental and educational agencies, and architectural/engineering firms. Graduates are usually assigned as CAD Technicians, Mechanical Design Drafters, CAD Drafters, Mechanical Drafters, Architectural Drafters or Designers. The Design Technology curriculum stresses technical competence, and the desire to keep abreast of developments in the field that allow greater potential for future advancement into design.
