Ivy Tech Approved To Offer CRU's for Teacher License Renewal

Ivy Tech Community College has been approved as a statewide provider of continuing renewal units (CRU's) for Indiana's teachers to renew their state licenses.

The Indiana Professional Standards Board, which administers the state's teacher licensing and continuing education process, recently approved the college's application to offer a variety of credit and non-credit courses that can be used for CRU's. Under the state's teacher licensing requirements, teachers must earn a total of 90 Certification Renewal Units every 5 years to keep their licenses current.

Ivy Tech received state approval for a total of 55 credit courses, in the areas of Computer Information Systems, Visual Communications, and Design Technology, along with 28 non-credit courses. The courses are offered throughout Ivy Tech's 23 campuses.

"We are very pleased that the Professional Standards Board has approved these courses as part of the CRU process," said Dr. Rebecca Nickoli, Ivy Tech's Executive Director of Educational Systems. "With 23 campuses throughout the state, our low tuition charges, and the wide variety of approved course offerings, we believe we have much to offer Indiana's teachers."

Indiana teachers interested in earning CRUs should contact their local Ivy Tech campus for information about local class offerings and schedules.

Ivy Tech charges the lowest tuition among the seven state-supported public institutions of higher education.
