Bloomington Hospital Contributes to
Life and Health Science Programs at Ivy Tech
February 22, 2006
Bloomington, Indiana - Officials at Ivy Tech Community College - Bloomington announced today that Bloomington Hospital is making a significant contribution to the college's "Grow Ivy" fundraising campaign. The contribution will support the college's life and health sciences programs and includes equipment and faculty for the college's nursing program over a three-year period.
In honor of this contribution, Ivy Tech will name its new nursing lab the "Bloomington Hospital Nursing Lab."
John Whikehart, Ivy Tech Community College - Bloomington Chancellor, says this contribution is important to the college and its students. "Bloomington Hospital has been an important community partner since 1967 and we want to acknowledge their contribution to our college and to the 'Grow Ivy' campaign. We are honored to house the 'Bloomington Hospital Nursing Lab' on our campus."
For nearly 40 years, practical nursing students from Ivy Tech have completed their clinical training at Bloomington Hospital. This means that a student reports directly to the hospital and receives on-the-job training in the fields of nursing and Paramedic Science.
"Our partnership with Ivy Tech is very important and we are pleased to be able to contribute to the college. Ivy Tech is a superb supplier of quality graduates to our local businesses, especially in health care careers," said Ruth Ann Morris, Bloomington Hospital Chief Nursing Officer. "The college has been very accommodating and, in recent years, has expanded its health care careers programs because of the need in our community for qualified professionals. We appreciate our partnership with Ivy Tech and know that with this contribution we will continue to improve our community's life and health science programs.
The college will dedicate the Bloomington Hospital Nursing Lab during a ceremony on Thursday, February 23, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. followed immediately by a reception.
The $3 million "Grow Ivy Tech Campaign" will assist Ivy Tech in its effort to accommodate growth in the life and health science arenas, increase scholarship funding, provide support for the Center for Civic Engagement and allow for future growth.
