Dr. Thomas Edington, Superintendent of Richland-Bean Blossom School Corporation in Ellettsville, has been appointed to Ivy Tech-Bloomington's Regional Board of Trustees. The College's State Board of Trustees ratified Edington's appointment on Thursday, August 10, in Madison. Edington is to fill the education position vacated by John Maloy. He will complete Maloy's term, which will end on June 30, 2009.
Edington joins the seven-member regional board, whose current members are Connie Ferguson of Bloomington (Chair), Judge Frank Nardi from Spencer, Dr. James Touloukian from Bloomington, Jerry Lambrecht from Bedford, Jim Crabb from Bloomfield and Gary Chaplin from Ellettsville. The trustees represent various constituencies on the board, including commerce, labor, agriculture, manufacturing, and education. In addition, there are two at-large positions. Members of the regional board are drawn from six counties in the Region 14/Bloomington service area.
John Whikehart, Ivy Tech Community College – Bloomington Chancellor, said Edington’s perspective on education is important to the board. “Edington has keen insight into K-12 education that will help us to better serve the students coming through our doors. He understands how education can change a student’s life, and he understands the importance of the community college system to the state of Indiana’s future.”
Edington received a B.S. Degree and his M.A. Degree in Elementary Education as well as his Principal Certification from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He received an Educational Specialist in Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and his Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana.
