Women's History Month Brings History, Poetry to Ivy Tech

Bloomington, Indiana-Students, faculty and staff celebrated Women's History Month at Ivy Tech today with student poetry and a celebration of the many contributions women make to our society. Guest speakers Abbie Anderson and Frances Gilliam spoke about the ways women have improved our communities and the vital role they have played in achieving justice and equal rights for all citizens.

Gynger Brown, a 3rd semester Ivy Tech student, read a poem she wrote about women's plight throughout history. Gynger will complete her Ivy Tech studies this summer and will transfer to Indiana University - Bloomington in the fall.

Abbie Anderson is the Curator of Education at the Mathers Museum and a member of the Bloomington Story Tellers Guild. Frances Gilliam is author of "A Time to Speak-A Brief History of the Afro-Americans of Bloomington from 1865-1965." Gilliam is also a retired school teacher from MCCSC.
