Job training initiative launched

Business, education and government leaders will launch an employment and job training initiative called the South Central Indiana Corporate Training Partnership with a luncheon meeting on Wednesday.

Seventeen organizations, most of them local businesses, have joined the partnership, whose formation was facilitated by Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington.

It is designed as a network of employers that can maximize their training budgets by sharing training in such areas as computer skills, management and organizational effectiveness. According to Ivy Tech Chancellor John Whikehart, it's a way for the college to fulfill its goal of responding to local work-force development needs.

Doris Sims, Region 10 director of the Indiana Department of Commerce, will be the featured speaker at the consortium launch.
