return P.A. Mack Jr. to Fund Radiation Therapy Scholarship at Ivy Tech Bloomington , Indiana Ivy Tech-Bloomington Chancellor John Whikehart, P.A. Mack Jr. and Dr. Allan Thornton, Medical Director for the Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute (MPRI), today signed a scholarship agreement allowing the college to award scholarships to students pursuing an Associate of Science degree in Radiation Therapy. The “Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute Scholarship in Radiation Therapy” will be funded by P.A. Mack Jr., former Indiana University Foundation trustee and board member and former member of the Indiana Commission on Higher Education.
The scholarship will be disbursed at the beginning of each semester to a student enrolled in the Radiation Therapy Program. The student must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average and must be in good standing with the college. Ivy Tech’s chair of the Radiation Therapy Program, in consultation with staff from the MPRI, will review the scholarship applications and the selection process. Successful scholarship students may be considered for internship opportunities and, after graduating from Ivy Tech, may be given the opportunity to interview for a permanent position with MPRI.
John Whikehart, Ivy Tech Community College – Bloomington Chancellor, thanked P.A. Mack Jr. for his donation. “The generosity of individuals like P.A. Mack is as important to us as financial gifts we receive from large corporations. Mr. Mack’s gift clearly supports our community college workforce development role; more importantly, it will change the life of a student.”
MPRI is one of only four Proton Therapy treatment centers in the United States and one of only three full-service centers. MPRI treats children and adults with tumors adjacent to vital organs incapable of successful treatment by traditional methods.
