![]() Ivy Tech enrollment increases once againHoosier Times BLOOMINGTON - Classes for 2006-07 start Monday at Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington, and officials are expecting another record year for enrollment. Highland bagpiper Ian Arthur will play as students arrive at the front door - an Ivy Tech tradition. Chancellor John Whikehart will also greet students. "It's one of my favorite days of the year because it is so full of promise for our students, for our faculty and for the college," Whikehart said last week. Ninety-seven Ivy Tech students will be enrolled in the new Hoosier Link program, a partnership with Indiana University Bloomington. They will live in IU dorms and take classes at Ivy Tech, along with one class per semester at IU. In two years, if they complete 26 transferable credits with at least a 2.5 grade point average, they can shift to a four-year degree program at IU. Also new this fall, Ivy Tech will use early and first-edition documents loaned by the Remnant Trust to teach history and other subjects. Many of the items date from the 1600s and 1700s and are works that influenced America's founders. In another change, Ivy Tech has begun a partnership with Rural Transit that will let students ride Rural Transit buses to campus for free. Ivy Tech Bloomington enrolled 3,885 students last fall. Campus officials expect that to increase for a 13th straight year.
