![]() High-schoolers get early look at collegeThe following is an article about a group of high school students from Brown County that recently visited our campus. Our enrollment services area and student ambassadors spent two days with two groups from Brown CountyShow & tell Making connections Brown County’s Freshman Academy students went to college earlier this month. More than 110 Academy freshmen visited Bloomington’s Ivy Tech, then bused over to IU for lunch, a talk and quick tour of the campus before returning to school in Brown County. At Ivy Tech, a panel of three Ivy Tech students, including Brown County High grad Steve Shipley, answered questions about college. A tour of the campus followed. At IU, the students were greeted by assistant admissions director Willis Cheaney, followed by lunch in the food court at Wright Quad dorm. After a tour of central campus, students then returned to high school with a greater understanding of what they need at that level before applying for college. In its pilot year, Freshman Academy is designed to get students involved early in the high school experience and better prepare them for the future. More than half of this year’s freshman class signed up for the elective program, which offers small, mentored group activities and discussion.
