HOW MUCH SHOULD I BORROW?

In determining how much to request on your loan application, remember to request only what you absolutely need. And it is important to anticipate the length of time of your entire program of study, especially if you are just taking brush up courses.

WARNING: Debt will add up quickly!
You may want to utilize the following worksheet to determine your need for direct expenses per term:

1. Tuition/Fees @ $87.75/credit (based on 2006-2007 year)
    (15 hrs=$1316.25, 12 hrs=$1053.00, 9 hrs=$789.75, 6 hrs=$526.50)

2. Technology Fee

3. Books/supplies estimate
    (Full time =$494, 3/4 time=$371, 1/2 time=$247)

4. Transportation estimate
    (Full time=$712, 3/4 time =$534, 1/2 time =$356)

ADD 1, 2, 3, 4 for Total Direct Costs per Term

              SUBTRACT expected grant/scholarships per Term

EQUALS unmet direct costs per term

This is the maximum amount that we recommend that you borrow per term but remember there is a yearly maximum allowed as discussed in loan counseling. Some students may also find it necessary to borrow to help with living expenses and childcare expenses.
